Why Walk?

Many planned communities across the country—including Westfall Village—place a lot of emphasis on being able to walk to places of need and interest. To this end, Westfall Village contains its own city center, where both the basic necessities of life and those required for fun and socialization are provided. You might be surprised how much the quality of your life will improve when you’re able to walk to where you need to go!

Many people who live in the suburbs are extremely isolated and don’t even realize it. Think of it this way: you wake up in your home and take your car to work. After work, you take your car to the grocery store. After getting groceries, you take your car home, open the garage with the automatic opener, and then go back to your home. It is entirely possible to go years in this fashion without ever meeting your neighbors in a traditional suburb!

When you walk, you become more aware of the community that surrounds you. You can talk to friends who are out on their porches. You can stop on your way back to your home and speak with your neighbor before you walk your groceries into your house. Your kids also have much more autonomy in this way—if they can walk to the library to return their items, they don’t need you driving them around in a car!

Living in a planned community that places a lot of emphasis on walking is a great way to expand your life to include your neighbors. Not to mention, you’ll surely find that the added exercise is a big plus, as well! Consider how your life could change for the better if only the lifestyle that you wanted was within walking distance!
